AC Keeps Turning On and Off: Common Causes
If your air conditioner keeps turning on and off in Miami-Dade, short cycling can have several causes. The pattern alone does not confirm a fault: a professional inspection can help identify what is happening with your system.
Common causes of HVAC short cycling
Common causes include a clogged filter restricting airflow, and thermostat placement: direct sunlight or proximity to a supply vent can affect how well it reads room temperature.
Another possibility is an oversized unit. It may cool the area near the thermostat quickly and shut off before the rest of the space is conditioned. Duct restrictions, dirty coils or control issues can also contribute.
When to request an inspection
Request an evaluation if the system starts and stops repeatedly, especially if indoor comfort is uneven or the pattern continues. A technician can review airflow, thermostat location, controls and equipment sizing. These signs do not determine the cause by themselves.
For preventive maintenance, Confort Club covers one residential system and includes two visits over 12 months, approximately every six months, with reminders and a report. It costs $399 prepaid per year or 12 payments of $35 ($420 total). Emergencies are not included. Refrigerant, parts, repairs and additional work are quoted separately with prior approval; the contract governs.
To request an inspection, visit Fresh And Flawless Corp or call (786) 915-0328.
